  • About place

  • The Mahalakshmi temple in Adyar, Chennai, India, is the most unique. The idols of 8 forms of Goddess Lakshmi are installed in this temple, which is why it is also known as 'Mata Ashtalakshmi Mandir,' and devotees who come here bring different lotus flowers. The temple's construction began in 1974, at the request of Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swami of Kanchi Math. This temple was built under the leadership of Niwas Varadcheriyar and appears very divine and grand. The architecture of this temple is a blend of ancient Dravidian and contemporary styles. The length of the temple is 65 feet and the breath is 45 feet. It is modeled on the Sundararaja Perumal temple at Uthiramerur. In 2012, the temple was renovated at a cost of ₹7 million.
